Turns out that Killzone 2 is a Halo-killer. Sort of.

The PS3-exclusive first-person shooter topped Microsoft's Xbox 360 real-time strategy game Halo Wars last week in the U.K. The two titles claimed the number one and two positions, respectively.

U.K. firm Chart-Track said that Killzone 2's top placement is the first Sony-published all formats number one in almost two years. April 2007's God of War II for PS2 was the last time a Sony game topped the U.K. charts.

The new releases pushed Capcom's Street Fighter IV down to number three, with sales dropping 49 percent following its debut a week earlier at number one. Wii Fit dropped to the fourth slot.

Halo Wars outsold the next fastest-selling Xbox 360 real-time strategy game, Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars by almost three to one, Chart-Track said.

Below are the top ten games in the U.K. for the week ended February 28:

  1. Killzone 2
  2. Halo Wars
  3. Street Fighter IV
  4. Wii Fit
  5. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
  6. Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection
  7. FIFA 09
  8. Call of Duty: World at War
  9. Ben 10: Alien Force
  10. Mario Kart Wii

Ok here it is. As I own Killzone 2 and have played through the story mode Edge's review is very off. As for Killzone 2 not living up to hype how many of you who claim this played the game not the demo. Now here goes on the multiplayer. How many people played Call of Duty 4 online and liked it? A lot of them liked it. Now how many people liked Team Fortress 2 and liked it? Many people. Well low and behold Killzone 2 online takes those two online experiences and smashes them up and now set the bar higher as the standard. So please save the malarky and play it. Not to mention time flies when playing because of the class system and working to get badges and ribbons as how the online creates a smooth transition from one match type to another once its been completed. Killzone 2 lives up to all the hype that's been built around it.

Ahhhh...it's good to see the Militias finally arrived. to think this story was posted for hours without fanboy flaming....INCONCEIVEABLE!

I've only played the demo for Killzone 2 and thought is it was pretty damn good. But my question for those who own it, is it worth $59.95 or wait for a used copy?

pastuh's picture

If you like too play online definitely. If you're only in too the single player thing, wait. :)

Chotus's picture

I do more of the single player thing but dabble in online play. The demo is a nice sample and got me kind of excited about the game. I tend to gravitate to my 360 more, but this has brought me back to the PS3 again.

thanks for the opinions...........

Leo_Walsh's picture

i would say buy it now. It's a brilliant game, tons of fun. As long as your up for a challenge.

I'm loving the online mode on KZ2 but I have a sinking feeling that it does not have the staying power of the Halos or even COD4. It feels like if I was to go back to it after a year it would be a ghost town.

gwsmokey's picture

Yeah right... Keep on dreaming dude... Anyhow its funny how you try to justify 360 game... and according to your post record, you do nothing but piss on sony... Anyhow what is most important here is that there are FANS that like the game, and that is what matters. Gurella games delivered that is the reality!

KZ2 lives up to the hype, now there will always be naysayers and some different opinions which is fine. Still does not change the fact that its the best looking FPS to date on any console!

calladorn8t's picture

Having both systems and having Gears of War 2. Gwsmokey is correct about KZ2 being the best looking console FPS to date...I didn't think anything would top GoW2....Gureilla did wonders on this one except for the co-op (Where is it in a time like this?)

NickgamertagO1's picture

Maybe it was an A.I. issue why there is no coop. Or maybe it has something to do with the network code. From what I've read coop, especially online done properly is rather difficult. Halo 3 had online coop but they didn't even confirm that until about a month from going gold. They said it is difficult to do right especially with Halo's open level system (the game knowing where both people are if you decide to both wander off from each other, and if you die to know where the other person is so you can respawn near them). I'm sure at some point in an interview someone had to have asked Gureilla why there is no coop. What's Gureilla's reasons for not including it??? Anyone have any idea, anyone from the Sony defense force ought to know. ^^

pastuh's picture

I was thinking about A.I. as well. I think your point about A.I. as well as the rest of arguments hits the right spot. It was probably way to difficult considering the very advanced level of it. I just hope they will implement it in the next game, it will definitely increase the game's appeal.

ArronC07's picture

There's talk of co-op being added in some DLC.

Halo Wars is the best console-RTS game ever made, because it is simple enough for anyone to play and be competitive at, while deep enough for masters to master. The fact that Halo Wars would instantly become the fastest selling game in its genre so quickly is amazing.

Killzone 2 is a game that does not live up to the standards in the era it was released in, which is 2009. It no longer matters whether or not things like Killzone 2 or HOME live up to what was promised in 2005, since the standards for the videogame industry as a whole are significantly higher than what was promised in 2005. This is the reason why HOME and Killzone 2 disappointed so many people due to the fact that they don't include "standard" features that people living in 2009 have come to fully expect.

Killzone 2 is the only first-person shooter released in the first half of 2009 that does not include a Co-Op mode. Therefore, it fails to live up to 2009 standards and disappoints a lot of people. Consequently, Killzone 2 received a review score of only 7 out of 10, which my friends and I agree with.

Awww really? A game that is SIMPLE FOR BEGINNERS and MASTERS CAN MASTER!!!!! Heck I better get that one Mister Athlete_gamer cough*Kim_Naroz*end cough

Your friends and you agree with it? Are they Microsoft employees like you, Kim_Naroz?

NickgamertagO1's picture

And I agree with everyone else that you are Kim reimagined. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you will NEVER respond directly to anyone. You are Kim, and you won't deny it. Hi Kim how are you today? What do you think of Halo Wars personally? Did you get the L.E edition cause I would like to play some Mythic maps with you. What is your gamertag?

A nice pat on the back for Ensemble, I'm glad. Given the amount of hype and money thrown into Killzone, it needs to stay there for a while. Hope it does.

Shame FEAR 2 is not in the pack anymore. Just shows how susceptible gamers are to hype and marketing. As an over-all package, they are too close to call, yet one is selling boatfulls and the other isn't. Nuts.

Max's picture

mmm, what will Halo 3:ODST be like...

Tony-Wicks's picture

KZ2 is a good game....but it's not worth a 7.

More like a 9.

Bad luck, Edge.

gwsmokey's picture

Yeah EDGE is pro M$ or it seems like that... I mean only review site ( and who are they to review anyway ) no credebility besides the fact it carries professional industry news that is usually slotered by kid like replies in the actual comment sections... Anyhow while everyone else gave the game a great score, they choose 7.

PFFFT - then again its an OPINION by the reviewer so its all ok.

ArronC07's picture

I think the 7 was well justified.

Leo_Walsh's picture

perhaps, but i really enjoyed the game, none the less.

ArronC07's picture

So did I, I really enjoyed the game and I think it's a good solid shooter but it's not exactly ground breaking and sp a 7 is about the right score.

Leo_Walsh's picture

yea the game mechanics were very good, the story not so much.

ArronC07's picture

double post. Soz and all that.

VivaLaJam's picture

7 isn't a bad score, it's good for a mediocre FPS.

grognard66's picture

Was Professor Layton just recently released in the UK or did it get a price drop? I was surprised to see it so high on the list. Sadly, it didn't make a dent in the US charts when it came out.

sargemat's picture

Great to see both selling well. I don’t have Killzone 2 yet but I hope to get it sometime maybe.

ArronC07's picture

Hopefully the fantards are growing weary from the power of the Picard,

Wooow no fanboyism coming out from the comments when the top to titles come from arch rivals Sony and Microsoft! Satan must be very cold in hell right now.

Congrats to both companies and Nintendo too for the continued success of Wii Fit. Love is all around!

Dave_Decades's picture

TRUE! WTF..this story's been up for a couple hours now. Get on that sh** Xbots, PlayGhast and Nintendudes.

Ozzman_79's picture

No kidding. C'mon, SOMEONE stir the pot here. These warm wishes to all companies won't ignite this power keg, waiting to explode.

pastuh's picture

KABOOM!!!!

Dave_Decades's picture

I haven't played Killzone 2 and I know Halo Wars rules, but I'm so old school I think the Sonic's Genesis Mega Collection should be #1! Yep, I'm slightly dillusional.

pastuh's picture

You just slightly too old. ;)

Leo_Walsh's picture

indeed, hugs all round :D

Well done Sony and MS.
