US retailer Kmart has posted an online listing for the widely rumoured PS3 Slim.
The 120GB console is listed for pre-order at $299 ahead of its supposed release next Monday on August 24.
Kmart’s front page also began carrying the following message today: ‘The rumors are reality. New low price and a new exciting PlayStation 3.’
Sony’s Gamescom press conference kicks off tonight at 6.30pm CET (5.30pm BST, 12.30pm EST, 9.30am PST).
StealthBadger: It's fuckin' K-mart. that's why!
The person who did the ad was either too lazy to get an official image or (probably the reality) Big K jumped the gun before SCEA could release any official photos in order to drum up interest and potential sales before the game chains. KM can't simply swipe a scan off the Internet, y'know...
I wonder why the picture isn't different then? I assume the new PS3 is slimmer, rather than just being a new SKU in the same shell? I guess that this is more of a preparation on the kmart site. Note, for instance, "Playstation", as opposed to "PlayStation".
What does a 360 elite cost in the US?
The Elite costs £244.66 [€283.54] in the U.S., but the rumor is a price drop to £183.35 [€212.48].
I was wondering about the picture too. Did Sony hold an official picture for fear of more leaks? Many store ads use in-house pictures; so it's likely that K-mart simply doesn't have Slims in their warehouse. This leak could come from K-mart wanting people to check their site.
Once the dominant discount store in the U.S., there's, like, 20 left in the nation.
The 360 elite is about to get a discount from $399 to $299, the pro model is being discontinued.
