Kojima unveils multiplatform Fox Engine

Metal Gear creator hoping to "push out great games with shorter development times".

Hideo Kojima has unveiled Fox Engine, a development platform that he says will see future Kojima Productions released on multiple platforms with shorter development cycles.

"Up until now we have been developing games exclusively for specific platforms, but in the future we look to go more global," he told GameTrailers in an interview. "We are paving the road to to multiplatform for future titles. Hopefully we can push out great games with shorter development times."

Kojima Productions began work on the engine after finishing Metal Gear Solid 4, and continued to work on it during development of PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Fox Engine will also support another new Kojima idea, dubbed Transfarring [sic], which enables games to be played on PSP and PS3 using one save file.

The only game currently confirmed to support Transfarring is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which is to be re-released on PS3 and Xbox 360 this November as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which also contains Sons Of Liberty and Snake Eater. Another collection, containing Zone Of The Enders and its sequel, will be released in 2012.

Kojima confirmed that his current project is being developed using Fox Engine, but was otherwise tight-lipped about his next release. He is not attending E3 this year, but intends to return in 2012 to promote Metal Gear Solid: Rising and "maybe others to represent the Kojima Productions brand."
