Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has been awarded as a finalist for MarketWatch’s 2008 CEO of the year award.
The Activision Blizzard CEO didn’t quite manage to win the award (which went to Hasbro's Brian Goldner), but he was chosen as one of the five select finalist CEOs from companies spanning all different businesses and industries, from J.P. Morgan to Southwest Airlines to Heinz.
Praise for Kotick was mainly found in his role behind the successful merger of Activision and Vivendi, to which Marketwatch described as creating “a formidable challenger to industry leader Electronic Arts”.
Michael Pachter, industry analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, said of Kotick: "There's a big mistake some people make in describing current success as a future strategy. What I like about Bobby is that he adapts and recognizes mistakes."

How do these nominations work? I guess he was nominated for the aforementioned, but you know, every time the guy opens his mouth, I get annoyed. He was probably not nominated by a gamer, that's for sure. He knows how to run a tight ship and make money, but then again, it's tough not to make money when you marry WoW's employer.
Bobby is the sequel man who won't take a risk on any IPs. He's already run Guitar Hero into the ground. I'd say that was just as risky as taking on an interesting new IP.
Let's see if he can make people sick of Call of Duty as well.
I personally don't like the guy, at least not as a gamer. It's tough to see how his principles are good for the industry. At least he's transparent about the whole thing.
