The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard will open the 2010 D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit Sessions on February 18.

Kotick’s opening speech will talk about how creative talent drives the video game industry.

"Bobby Kotick has believed in the power of interactive entertainment his entire career," said Joseph Olin, president of the Academy. "The growth of Activision Blizzard, from bankruptcy to an industry leader is attributable to his unwavering drive to develop a studio model that fosters creativity to deliver great games. Activision Blizzard is home to some of the most talented developers in our industry and we are thrilled to have Bobby's insight on how great games are built upon great talent."

Kotick has been chief executive officer of Activision since February 1991. In July 2008, he became chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard before the firm merged with Blizzard Entertainment to become the largest third-party software publisher in the world.

So did he or did he not say he was developing a culture of fear in the company's studios and trying to take the fun out making games? An attitude not exactly compatible with the quote above.

Either there has been some creative reporting, Olin is clueless, or he's just full of it. I know bullshit is not a new phenomena, but still, I wish it wasn't so easy to throw it out there without some kind of back splash.
