PlayStation visionary Ken Kutaragi is already thinking about PlayStation 4… and 5… and 6.
In an interview with EE Times, Kutaragi said, “As a matter of course, I have the vision of Playstation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network."
Kutaragi said that his vision of a fully-fledged network-centric PlayStation experience is now possible thanks to new technologies.
"The design concept of the Cell processor is the network processor," said Kutaragi, a hardware engineer."Now I’m ready to start working with a much wider world," he said.
Kutaragi last week announced plans for his retirement, which would take effect in June. He said in the interview that he would maintain an “amicable” relationship with Sony, albeit as an independent.
PlayStation software head Phil Harrison hinted at the demise of disc-based software last year, saying, “I’d be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive.”
