The third map pack for Activision’s Call Of Duty: World At War generated more than one million paid downloads during its first three days of availability.

Featuring four new maps, the Treyarch developed DLC launched on August 6 via Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store for 800 MS Points / £7.99 / $9.99.

The game’s second map pack also sold a million copies in three days, while the first achieved the milestone in four days. Combined World At War map pack sales have now hit 6.5 million worldwide, according to Activision.

“The support and enthusiasm from the Call Of Duty: World At War online community is tremendous," said Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia. "The team is appreciative that so many players from around the world have continued to enjoy the game and all of the downloadable content that we have produced."

In a recent financial earnings call, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith spoke of the growing importance of downloadable content. “Beyond direct accretive revenue generation, this extends our shelf life, helping to insulate us from the used game market and in turn allowing us to hold pricing longer,” he said.

Call Of Duty: World At War has sold over 11 million copies since releasing in November 2008.
