League of Legends players now considered professional athletes by US government
Some League of Legends players are now considered professional athletes by the United States government, which allows international players easier access to visas to compete on American soil.
According to a tweet from League of Legends Championship Series commentator Leigh “Deman” Smith, the US government now considers professional players on the same level as NBA, NFL, and NHL competitors.
This is especially important news for Canadian players, who are included in the North American segment of the LCS. With the changes, it will be much easier for them to come to the States for the weekly tournaments.
