Don Foster, Liberal Democrat shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport, has said that his party is fully supportive of tax breaks for the UK games industry.
"Liberal Democrats support the introduction of a games tax relief,” he told games industry trade body Tiga. “Following consultation on the details, we would implement the relief as soon as possible."
Tiga CEO Richard Wilson welcomed the stance, noting: “There is a growing cross party consensus that games tax relief is good for the UK development sector, good for the UK games industry, and good for the UK economy.”
Foster was one of a trio of representatives from the three major British parties to tackle questions from senior game industry figures at last month's inaugural ELSPA Question Time event.
His comments come shortly after Chancellor Alistair Darling outlined Labour’s support for UK games tax breaks similar to those offered to the film industry.
