Westwood, Mass.-based Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine has founded a new Redwood City, Calif. location, the company said Monday.

Turbine CEO Jim Crowley said the new studio will house staff that will help usher in the "new generation of cross platform MMOs."

The company is looking to hire a senior console engineer, confirming that Turbine is looking towards console development in addition to PC.

Turbine also said Dave Brevik, former chief visionary officer at ill-fated Hellgate developer Flagship Studios, would become the company's newest creative director. Prior to Flagship, Brevik was president of Blizzard North and a director.

In addition, former Ping0 employee Jeff Lind joined Turbine as director of engineering, and ex-Sniper Studios CEO Matt McKnight will be studio director at the new West Coast location.

No word yet on what Turbine's next project is, but the studio is hiring for several positions, including a "senior platform engineer--user generated content."

Personally, I was never a fan of the LOTR series but I gotta tell you the latest one may well make a believer out of me. Looks wicked!
