17,000 sales in one week prompt Amanita to continue promotional offer. Regional sales statistics also revealed.

Amanita, the Czech indie developer resposible for PC adventure Machinarium, is extending its pirate amnesty having sold 17,000 copies in one week.

The amnesty aimed to counter the large proportion of players that had downloaded the game without paying by offering the latest version and soundtrack for only $5 (normally $20). Amanita estimates that the percentage of players who downloaded the game - which included no DRM protection - without paying could be as high as 85 to 95 per cent.

"Thanks to everyone who bought the game, no matter if it was during the sale or before, no matter if you pirated it before or not," writes the developer on its site. "The sale has gone so well that we have decided to extend it for a few more days."

Originally scheduled to conclude yesterday, the sale will now run until August 16. The developer also used the announcement to reveal stats which break down the 17,000 sales per country. The USA tops the list, accounting for 39.4 per cent of the downloads, followed by the UK with 11.5 per cent. Thailand closes the published list with 0.1 per cent.
