Thirdparty accessories firm mad Catz has reported a jump in sales and profit for the third financial quarter ended December 31, 2009.
Net sales for the period were up 19 per cent to $48.8 million (£31m), representing the second best sales quarter in the company’s history.
Gross profit rose 51 per cent to $15.9 million (£10.1m), operating income more than trebled to $7.6 million (£4.8m), while net income hit a company quarterly record of $5.6 million (3.6m).
Mad Catz president and CEO Darren Richardson said: "These results reflect our success in aligning the company with some of the industry's most popular and anticipated titles, and in bringing high-value products to market that enhance the gaming experience.
"While the videogame industry has experienced significant economic-related pressure, we are highly encouraged by the consumer reception to our product portfolio and believe that our strategy to diversify our product line-up across a broader range of licensed and non-licensed properties, hardware platforms, both within the videogame sector as well as expanding into the PC market, will continue to serve the company well.”
While annual gaming hardware and software sales shrunk in 2009, sales of accessories were flat year-on-year at $5 billion.
