Take-Two’s Mafia II debuted atop the UK all formats chart during the week ended August 28.
The crime sequel registered the biggest domestic game launch since its publisher released Red Dead Redemption 14 weeks ago, with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 52 per cent of total sales, and the PS3 and PC editions taking 41 per cent and seven per cent respectively.
The previous week’s top three - Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, Toy Story 3 and Red Dead Redemption - all slipped one place down the chart.
Elsewhere, £129.99 Wii hardware offerings helped boost sales of the bundled Wii Sports Resort by 91 per cent week-over-week, seeing the title move up 11 places to fifth.
