Marvelous Sells Rising Star Games Stake

Japanese publisher revises its plan for overseas distribution following difficult market conditions and low sales.

Marvelous Entertainment has sold its 50 per cent stake in Rising Star Games, citing lower than expected sales in the West and difficult market conditions as reasons behind the move.

The publisher recently opened a North American subsidiary and made a joint venture with Nordic Nintendo distributor, Bergsala to start Rising Star Games in Europe. But Marvelous has now sold its 50 per cent stake in Rising Star Games to Intergrow, a Japanese company that handles video, PC, and mobile phone games, reports Siliconera.

Towards the end of last year Marvelous reported contrasting results from its Wii and PSP releases during the first half of its business year.

Three out four Wii titles launched during the period made a loss, while four of the firm’s five PSP games were profitable, the company said in a financial presentation.
