BioWare’s sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2 was named Best Game at the Game British Academy Videogame Awards in London last night.
The EA title was praised by the selection jury as “a combined achievement of technology, art, design and audio…a beautiful, complete gaming experience.”
The night’s big winner, though, was Heavy Rain. Quantic Dream’s noir thriller won three awards, taking home BAFTAs for Original Music, Technical Innovation, and Story.
The Game Award – the only prize of the night chosen by public vote – predictably went to Call Of Duty: Black Ops, the third consecutive year the award has been won by a Call Of Duty title.
Other highlights included our Game Of 2010 Super Mario Galaxy 2 winning Best Gameplay, and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit winning Best Multiplayer. The inaugural Social Network Game award went to Playfish’s My Empire.
