Mass Effect 3 charity drive closed at Child’s Play’s request

Organisers of a petition urging BioWare to change the ending of Mass Effect 3 are to cease accepting donations for Child's Play at the charity's request.

Writing on the Retake Mass Effect ChipIn page, the campaign's organiser – known only as Robb – says the charity drive has been set an end goal of $80,000; at the time of writing, $79,916.16 has been raised. This, he explains, comes after BioWare founder Dr Ray Muzyka said that fans' voices had been heard, and Child's Play expressed reservations about being seen as backing the movement, which has thousands of supporters on Facebook and Twitter.

"As evidenced by the statement from Dr Muzyka, we have made our voices heard," he writes. "We have shown out sincerity and passion. We have brought positive attention to the Retake Mass Effect movement. Make no mistake. This effort has been victorious.

"I have been in contact with a manager at Child's Play," he continues. "First, he wanted to stress how grateful they were for our efforts here, and the huge impact it will have in helping the charity.

“However, he pointed out that several sources are incorrectly assuming a link between the charity and the petition, or outright support of the petition by the charity.

"This has been the source of some difficulty for them, and it has been requested that we wind this effort down."

Muzyka said on Wednesday that fan feedback had prompted executive producer Casey Hudson and his team to start work "on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey." He promised further details next month.
