Nintendo has announced plans to release Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii later this year.

The package will bundle Retro Studios’ two GameCube Metroid titles and the studio's more recent Wii game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on one disc. It's set to launch on August 24 at a suggested retail price of $49.99.

The former titles will feature updated “Wii Remote controls, wide-screen presentation and other enhancements,” according to Nintendo.

"Metroid Prime Trilogy puts the best first-person adventures all in one place, with a host of new additions that make these three timeless titles more engaging than ever," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "A great deal of care and detail has gone into Metroid Prime Trilogy, providing longtime fans with new ways to experience the games they love."

lame. How about some new first party games, instead? Something I couldn't pick up and put in a wii any time I wanted?

Hey, Widescreen! Weclome to 2003 Nintendo! Have low-carb, cheeseburger with no bun; you've earned it.

They could do some camera-reworking, & string the stories together to make a long, claustraphobic Gears of War. They won't. It'll be the exact same games with a new "survival/points/nude/whatever mode," upon completing said modes, you get a gold Samus-hat for your Mii that says, I'm very good at video games."

I do hope they'll still support the extraordinarily tight controls of the first two games using the GameCube controller.
