Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 has stormed the latest Japanese software chart, selling close to half a million copies in its first few days on the market.

The game sold 465,000 units, more than 12 times as many copies as its nearest rival, to debut at No1 for the week ended June 15. MGS4's true impact on hardware sales will be revealed by Media Create on Friday, but reports suggest weekly PS3 sales may have topped 70,000, up from just over 10,000 units the previous week.

 

Mario Kart Wii claimed second spot on the chart, shifting 38,000 units to narrowly outsell Wii Fit.

 

Konami’s Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Portable 3 and Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, PSP titles that have both formerly topped the chart, rounded off the top five.
