As well as announcing three new editions to its budget range, Microsoft has provided an update on the Xbox 360's sales success in Europe.

David Gosen, Vice President of Marketing, Xbox Europe claims that the console has “sailed past” 8 million console sales in Europe.

“As we see more and more families looking to save money by staying in, Xbox 360 continues to offer high-quality home entertainment at fantastic value and consumers,” he says.

Kim, get a life. Your shameless propaganda is actually 3 times larger than the article.

Xbox 360 is the #1 best-selling high-definition console in Europe. The great thing for Microsoft is that the Xbox 360 continues to outsell the Playstation 3 at an even faster rate due to the incredibly library of Xbox 360 games combined with the lack of success for Blu-ray. Blu-ray movies simply cost way too much money (up to $35 for one movie). People seem to like the idea of the Xbox 360 On-Demand service for their high-definition movies much more. As the Net-flix servic grows, the Xbox 360 popularity has risen even more. I really do think this is a strong indicator that the DVD format is the final "success" in the era of discs available for purchase. The true next-gen is not in Blu-ray. The true next-gen is in high-definition Video On-Demand where you store a huge library of thousands of your favorite movies and TV shows, just like Netflix on Xbox 360.
