Microsoft is reportedly in discussions with former News Corporation president Peter Chernin over the launch of a new television channel on Xbox Live.
The channel would be exclusive to Xbox Live subscribers, said Bloomberg sources with knowledge of the proposal, and Chernin has suggested raising the online service’s monthly fee by $1 or $2 for access to programming.
Running original shows and repeats, the channel would be owned jointly by Microsoft and Chernin, who stepped down as News Corp.’s second- in-command in June last year. He now runs his own production company, Chernin Entertainment.
Microsoft has yet to respond to the Chernin’s proposal, according to the report.
Xbox Live has a community of over 23 million people across 26 countries.
