General manager of Xbox Live Europe Jerry Johnson says that streaming platforms will not enforce change in the foreseeable future.

Speaking during a panel session on digital distribution at last night's London Games Conference, Johnson said that the market and current broadband infrastructure will not support streaming services like OnLive, Gaikai or OTOY.

But he admitted: "We need to accept that technology will improve, so change will come, and as an industry we have to accept that and move with it. But not in the foreseeable future."

Who cares what Microsoft is or isn't scared of?

onLive sounds like the direction things will go eventually, but it's probably too far ahead of its time right now. First people have to get more comfortable with the concept of downloading their content, yet still "owning it" on their HD/devices - then maybe people will wrap their heads around the concept of streaming content as you want to use it but having it stored "in the clouds" to use where ever you want.

Onlive is just not going to take off, sorry guys. Digital distribution isn't going to replace physical copies in the short to medium term. Time to deal with reality and get on with working with the system we already have.

Onlive will definitely compliment existing systems in the short term at least. It's good idea but at what cost? We've seen other revolutionary idea's come and go.

In its favour It does promise to make high quality gaming achievable and more accessible without the hefty hardware upgrades and that certainly has me intrigued. A Laptop, a small piece of software or an adapter and internet connection, couldn't be simpler.

Provided Onlive can satisfy demand and users veracious appetite for content and maintain a high level of service. With the backing that Onlive already has from key members of the industry there is no reason why they should fail. Though they should be prepared to see others follow with their own brands of on-demand portals; if it proves successful.

I think that Onlive is a great service. That is of course if it works aswell as they say. If it can deliver on there promises then I think i will be a big hit but more so for the PC gaming market. Sure it can handle any game but consoles are doing more now than just delivering great graphics. They are delivering new experiences through hardware like the Wii. Even Sony and MS are headed down this path. So unless they create something simular like these consoles (excluding the micro console, not the same) then all they have is a service not everyone can use yet. On the pc front thought I can imagine buying into it very easily. The thought of not having to upgrade every 2 years or so it fantastic. Bring it on.

Also.....I wouldn't be surprise if all the major console manufactures are looking into this tech.
