The Xbox 360 will get an entirely new dashboard interface in its fall update, Microsoft revealed Monday, and with that update will come a series of new online services that will include Netflix movie offerings.

While the look and feel of the 360 dashboard will be completely changed by this update, the update will also feature the long rumored 3D Avatar system. These avatars will represent players and will be completely customizable.

Other major enhancements to the LIVE service include Xbox LIVE Party, which will allow up to eight players to stay together across various gaming and media experiences as a group. Xbox LIVE Primetime, another new addition, will feature scheduled gaming events that will, among other things, allow players to use their avatars in game show-like experiences and compete for real prizes.

Netflix functionality will also be included in this update. Microsoft announced that it has signed an exclusive partnership with the movie rental service, and that this partnership will allow Netflix films to be viewed from the 360 at no additional cost over the standard subscription rate. Netflix functionality will integrate with Xbox LIVE Party as well, allowing multiple players to view Netflix films at the same time across different 360s.

A fairly clear 'influence' but lacking the charm of Miis.
