Embattled publisher Midway Games has confirmed to Edge that it has laid off a "small number" of employees from its Chicago headquarters on Wednesday.
A rep for the company said the cuts come after the shipment of the "two major frontline games," Blitz: The League II and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
"As large projects are completed, it is expected for any multi-team studio to evaluate the appropriate staffing levels and team composition needed going forward," the rep stated.
Some staff were reassigned other projects. A report on Kotaku cited an "anonymous but reliable source" who said about 20 to 30 people were affected.
The rep didn't confirm the figure, but added, "[The reduction] was well below 10 percent of the studio population, and many of those people were reassigned elsewhere in the company. The move occurred today."
He continued, "No other changes are being made at this time. Our Chicago studio will continue to be the home of the Mortal Kombat team, and we have several support groups and major prototype teams working in the facility as well."
Earlier this week, Midway reported quarterly losses of $75.9 million, or 83 cents per share, more than doubling last year's net loss of $33.5 million.
Over the past months, Midway laid off 90 workers at its Austin studio, cancelled licensing deals and closed its L.A. studio.
