Mikami: Zwei is “pure survival horror”

Shinji Mikami says he is being "very hands-on" in development of Zwei, the first game from his Tango Gameworks studio which he describes as "pure survival horror."

As we reported yesterday, Mikami's first project since 2010 Platinum Games shooter Vanquish was unveiled in Japanese magazine Famitsu. Mikami is executive director on the project, but insists he is taking an active role in development.

"A true survival horror game is one in which the player confronts and overcomes fear," Mikami said in a press release. "I've found my focus, and once again I'm striving for pure survival horror.

"I am very hands-on in the development of this game to ensure the quality is there. Rest assured."

Bethesda, whose parent company ZeniMax acquired Tango Gameworks in October 2010, says Mikami defines pure survival horror as an experience which "pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration."

Little else has been revealed – ZeniMax Asia's Toru Takahashi said last month Zwei would not be released until 2013 at the earliest – but Bethesda has released the below collage of in-game environments.
