AQ Interactive has confirmed that its upcoming Xbox 360 RPG Cry On has been cancelled.
Details on the game had remained thin ever since t was announced back in 2005. AQ Interactive says it closed the project “after analyzing the current market environment and forecasts for the future.”
Cry On was in development at Mistwalker, an outfit perhaps better known for their 360 exclusives Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was said to have a role in the game’s production.
“We deeply apologize for troubling those who were awaiting its release," AQ Interactive added.

FFVII is not the be all and end all of JRPG and as soon as ppl will realise that the better the whole world will be. Don't get me wrong VII was a great game but 8-12 still had their plus points and also a half decent storyline to them. While the story is very much a cliche, lost odyssey is still one of the quality JRPG's out there at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing FFXIII playing in my 360, and I really don't care if others find it to be sub-standard..... i'll still love it as much as any other
I want next gen Shin Megami Tensei!
agreed, although it's disappointing to hear it's not unexpected. this company was put together with big expectations and has underwhelmed.
what is suprising, though, is how most JRPG's continue to roll out riddled with cliche after tired cliche. you can produce mediocre RPG's for the ps2 and thrive because the development costs are minimal but that's not going to work for the ps3 or 360 where costs are significantly higher. that's probably what their board members saw and with the state of the global economy being what it is, pulled the plug on 'Cry On'.
Mistwalker was created to re-define the genre and help the 360 establish credibility in Japan, not contribute more of the same with titles that were merely "OK".
i'll continue to wait for that FFVII remake.
It doesn't surprise me what-so-ever. There are loads of JRPG's on the 360, but most of them are average and run of the mill. The PS2 is still the machine to have if one wants top JRPG's.
