IGN is reporting that with three words, Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed the return of his GameCube gardening strategy franchise. Those three words: “we’re making Pikmin.”
According to the report, the statement was made casually at Nintendo’s E3 developer roundtable on Wednesday evening. No further information beyond that short sentence was made. The last entry in the Pikmin franchise, Pikmin 2 (pictured), was released in the United States in 2004.
On Tuesday, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime responded to statements that the core gamer demographic was not satisfied with revelations made at the company’s E3 press conference. At that time, he cited Animal Crossing: City Folk and brief mentions of Zelda and Mario franchise additions as indicators of Nintendo catering to that market.
