The Jim Henson Company awarded its annual Jim Henson Honors to four recipients, two of which are straight out of the games industry.

The highest honor, The Jim Henson Celebration Honor, went to games luminary Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's general manager and father of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and many other innovations.

A statement from The Jim Henson Company said, "Shigeru Miyamoto has reignited America's love for gaming with the creation of Nintendo's hugely popular Wii console."

Shigeru Miyamoto was also the creator of Wii Fit, a proven hit that Nintendo can't keep in stock.

But Miyamoto wasn't the only gaming honoree. Electronic Arts' Spore, helmed by Maxis' Will Wright, won The Jim Henson Technology Honor. "The game is meticulously conceived and executed with infinite detail," The Jim Henson Company said.

The annual Jim Henson awards began in 2005, recognizing "individuals or products" that convey the "core values and philosophy" of the late Jim Henson, who is famous for creating The Muppet Show.

The criteria for the awards include "a commitment to creativity, innovative applications of art and technology and inspiration of others."

The non-game honorees were artist Shepard Fairey of "Obey Giant" fame, who earned the Creativity Honor, and The Center for Puppetry Arts Distance Learning Center, which earned the Community Honor.
