Time readers have selected legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto as 2008's most influential figure, topping entries such as Stephen Colbert, Al Gore and David Beckham.

Time's website said Miyamoto, 55, received almost 2 million votes, 300,000 more than runner-up, Korean pop star Rain.

Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's Colbert Report came in third with around 900,000 votes.

Miyamoto appeared one other time on the Time 100. In 2007, he came in at number nine on the list, edging out U2's Bono and Apple's Steve Jobs.
