Activision’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the top selling PC game at US retail during November, the NPD Group has revealed.
While the research firm is no longer freely distributing PC game-specific charts, its November PC software sales data shows the Infinity Ward developed shooter as the highest selling game. Gamasutra reports that the title shifted nearly 170,000 units at retail for Windows PC last month.
Some had questioned whether ill feeling within some sectors of the PC community over Infinity Ward’s decision to drop support for dedicated servers could negatively impact the game’s commercial performance. However, shortly after release the developer claimed that the PC version was enjoying “tremendous” sales, outpacing those of its 2007 predecessor.
For its part, publisher Activision said prior to the title’s release that it wasn’t “overly concerned” by the Modern Warfare 2 PC furore.
The console versions of Modern Warfare 2 sold over six million copies in the US during November, shattering Halo 3’s monthly record of 3.3 million units set back in September 2007.
Dragon Age: Origins was the second best selling PC game of the month, according to NPD, followed by The Sims 3: World Adventures, The Sims 3, Left 4 Dead 2 and World Of Warcraft.
