Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri has shipped one million copies ahead of its Japanese release on Saturday.
In doing so it has become the first third party Wii game to have an initial shipment of over one million units, according to the publisher.
Promising enhanced graphics and online modes, the game will be available as a standalone title or bundled with Nintendo’s new black-coloured Wii, which also releases on August 1.
As a series, Monster Hunter has now surpassed ten million units shipped, said Capcom.
Perhaps the simpler reason is best: It's far less expensive to develop a Wii game than a PS3 or 360 game.
Off topic, but because i was having a similar conversation with someone a few days ago about this: it's also cheaper (and quicker) to make another DS Castlevania than try to do another 3D version (although I think Kojima and Mercury Steam may be the first folks to make that series work in 3D this time out). There have been how many new GBA and DS CV games released in the past few years?
Granted trying to fit a MH game on the DS would be nuts, but PSP or PS2 quality games coming to the Wii isn't crazy. Hell, Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga is coming to the US soon and it's actually looking AND playing better than the PSP versions.
g.
Once again, another stupid comment from Dr Wily. How is this gonna be a "mistake" for Capcom? If Dragon Quest can sell in the millions on the DS, why will Monster Hunter bomb on the Wii? Having it on the PS3 would not have been a better choice. It'd have cost Capcom more to develop and there would be less return in profits due to the much lower install base. I thought would be obvious by now? Go look at all the other Playstation exclusives Sony have lost. That's ALL except for MGS... DUH!
Also, no one buys PS3 games. Even first party stuff is having a hard time selling. The reason core games like No More Heroes doesn't sell is because its a game no one gives a sh*t about. I love 'core' games too but NMH have never had any interest from me. And I doubt it would've fared much better, if at all, on other systems. NMH would've just got lost in all the stuff on those machines anyway. It doesn't reek of stand out or must have so of course no one's bought it.
I do admit games like Madworld should have sold more than they should but I think the stylised nature of the game may have been its shortcoming. Okami was a great (much better than MW) game and released on the PS2 initially but hardly anyone bought that either. And that's on a console that has (even back then too) over 100million userbase....
Why is this on Wii? I'm certainly no hater of Nintendo, but this is one franchise I thought Sony meshed well with, I would have loved to see some real HD Monster Hunter on PS3.
Since Moster Hunter is mainly a Japanese franchise, meaning its biggest sales come from Japan, so it makes perfect business sense to put your hot, popular game on the country hot, popular and best selling platform.
Lets just say Sony is lucky Capcom didn't took Monster Hunter from the PSP to the DS.
Look at other core titles like No More Heroes on Wii in Japan. They bombed massively. PS3 or 360 would have been a better choice since Monster Hunter is already a massive PSP franchise in Japan a PS3 game just makes sense.
It seems the people at Capcom were wooed by a large install base. It's unfortunate such a small percentage of that install base actually buy games apart from what came with their console. However the Monster Hunter fans are so fanatical I wouldn't be surprised if they all buy Wiis just to play this lol.
Comparing No More Heroes bombing in Japan to Monster Hunter 3 is like saying Dragon Quest IX would bomb on DS because Avalon Code bombed. It makes no sense.
Monster Hunter is a popular, system selling brand. No More Heroes is not.
"is like saying Dragon Quest IX would bomb on DS because Avalon Code bombed"
Lmao, too funny.
cause Capcom chickened out on the PS3 version, while it may have seemed like a good decision back then its look like a huge mistake right now
How so!?
