The likelihood of an imminent Xbox 360 price cut announcement appears to have risen following the publication of the latest catalogue from US department store Wal-mart.

The catalogue list the Xbox 360 Elite for $299 from August 30, seemingly confirming a soon-to-be-announced $100 price cut.

The listing was spotted by Kotaku, which also uncovered a $299 Xbox 360 Elite listing in an upcoming catalogue from US hypermarket chain Meijer. That listing also pointed to the system’s availability at the new price point from August 30.

Earlier this week Sony announced that it was dropping the price of the PS3 by $100 to $299.

the reason this won't have much impact is because the $299 price point is nothing new to the 360, the average Joe is just going to see a $299 360 on the shelf, and the more informative shoppers know that this is a wash cause they're just trading a slightly larger HDD for no HDMI cable

I dont think a 360 price cut will really do it at this point, I think MS needs to drop the price far below that of the slim PS3 in order to make a difference bc like it or not your getting alot more bang for your buck with the slim then you would with the elite 360. Free online, integrated wifi and the biggest blow of all a bluray player. A quality bluray player alone is 299 nowadays and if anyone has ever sat down and watched a bluray on a quality HDTV I have to say it is a BIG difference thats all I can watch lately bc after getting used to watching blurays dvds drawbacks are so much more noticable.

This can't be true Microsoft normally undercuts, not matches price (god knows they can afford to).

indeed , ms should phase out the arcade , KEEP and cut the pro to 199 and cut the Elite to 249

What is that in £'s because im no good with numbers (or maths in any form) is a 360 price drop really going to change anything in the current market. They've been out for years now. I think that this has come too late.

The last 360 price cut had a huge effect - they shifted tons more units than normal.
