Mythic Entertainment is keeping a close eye on the subscriber numbers for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

The studio said Friday that the EA-published MMORPG has hit 750,000 registered players since it launched September 18.

About a week after release, EA said around 500,000 players had signed up for WAR.

Mythic boss Mark Jacobs has said he expects the game to maintain a subscription base of "More than EverQuest (at its peak) and less than [World of Warcraft]," or between 550,000 and 11 million.

One analyst estimated the game would level off between 250,000 and 300,000.

The subscription-based game still has about a week left before early adopters' free month of play runs out, which may be the true test of whether or not players stick with Mythic's much-hyped title.
