[UPDATE] Mythic responds

Speculation is mounting that EA-owned developer Mythic Entertainment has been hit by wave of layoffs.

The Virginia-based Warhammer Online developer has seen “21 customer service employees, half of QA and all of the playtest group” made redundant, according to a report from Joystiq, which cites sources reportedly close to the matter.

Last month EA announced it would be axing 1,000 jobs from its global workforce in order to save the company an annual $120 million. Since then, speculation has pointed to a number of studios thought likely to be facing redundancies, such as Pandemic’s Australian arm.

Yet Need for Speed developer Black Box is the only studio so far confirmed to be part of EA’s widespread cost-cutting measures. The troubled publisher remains quiet on the issue, and is expected to make an official announcement in its next financial report, due on February 3.
