Namco Bandai Posts First Half Loss, Reduced Sales

Tekken publisher Namco Bandai has posted a net loss and reduced sales for the first half of its business year.

Sales for the six month period ended September 30 fell 9.5 per cent year-on-year to 172.73 billion yen ($1.9b/£1.14b), while the company swung from a profit of 1.28 billion yen ($14.2m/£8.4m) to a loss of 6.04 billion yen ($67.1m/£39.9m).

The company sold 8.4 million software units during the first half, down from 8.9 million during the same period last year. Software revenues were almost unchanged year-on-year at 29.5 billion yen (£327.7m/£194.7m).

Namco's top selling title during the first half was Ben 10 Alien Force. Released in Europe and the US for PS2, Wii, PSP and DS, it sold 480,000 units. It was followed by Afro Samurai for Xbox 360 and PS3, which moved 420,000 copies across Europe and the US, and Tales Of Vesperia for the same platforms, which sold 410,000 copies in Europe and Japan.

Namco expects to sell 25.7 million software units during the full year, up from 23.4 million last year, and to generate a full year profit of 8.5 billion yen ($94.4m/£56.1m), down 28.1 per cent year-on-year.
