Namco Bandai Reports Heavy Quarterly Loss

Publisherís gaming segment also sees sliding first quarter sales.

Namco Bandai has reported increased losses and falling sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.

The company posted a net loss of 2.85 billion yen ($29.9m/£17.7m), down from a one billion yen profit in the same quarter last year, while sales declined 15.8 per cent to 75.73 billion yen ($796m/£470m).

Sales in the firm’s Games Content division, which houses videogame software, arcade machines and mobile operations, fell by more than 25 per cent to 20.21 billion yen ($212.4m/£125.4m), while the segment saw an operating loss of 4.14 billion yen ($43.5m/£25.7m).

The firm’s bestselling titles during the quarter were Afro Samurai for PS3 and Xbox 360 (420,000 units), We Ski & Snowboard for Wii (270,000) and Dragon Ball Z: Attack of The Saiyans for DS (190,000).
