Following the accessible Madden 09 All-Play, EA Sports is releasing another licensed sports title that uniquely attempts to attract the Wii's mass market audience.

NASCAR Kart Racing will feature licensed drivers including (but not limited to) Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart.

A video for the game, slated for North American release on February 10, 2009, showed a colorful racer featuring big-headed characters in tiny NASCAR-inspired karts pulling off various arcade-like stunts, a far cry from the realistic NASCAR 09.

Up to four players can play via split screen across 24 "race layouts." Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Dover International Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway will all be in the game.

See more details on the title in this Edge interview.

My assumption was that Nintendo was extremely against in-game advertising--thats why Double Fusion and Massive-like companies aren't on the platform. The ads on the cars also violate CARU policy, and since the game is aimed at kids, won't this be an issue?

Mario Kart with marketing (the game makes sure you get a clear view of the companies/products being advertised on the hoods of the cars).

Maybe I'm just a cynic.

I think they're right on the money with this. I would never buy a Nascar game prior to this; but after watching the video, I'm certainly wondering if this would be fun to sit and play with my kids. Looks like it could finally give Mario Kart a reason to make some real improvements instead of retreading the same formula they keep putting out there for us.

I'm not even a big EA fan; but these sports games from EA that take a more fun (less realistic) approach are definitely starting to get my attention. Bring back the fun baseball games with crazy power-ups, fireball pitches and towering fly-ball leaps! I'm all for it.
