NCsoft Posts Large Q2 Gains

NCsoft has reported large sales and profit increases for the second quarter.

Sales were up 70 per cent year-on-year to 137.8 billion Korean won ($110.5m/£67.2m). Meanwhile, operating profit rose 353 per cent year-on-year to 47.5 billion won ($38.1m/£23.1m) and net income by 451 per cent to 33.8 billion won ($27.1m/$16.4m).

South Korea accounted for 57 per cent of sales, Japan 15 per cent, North America eight per cent, Europe and Taiwan three per cent. The remainder was generated from royalties.

Aion: The Tower Of Eternity – released in Korea in November 2008 and in Japan and Taiwan in July 2009 - was the company’s biggest earner, bringing in 34 per cent of sales, followed by Lineage 2 with 31 per cent and Lineage with 23 per cent.

Aion is scheduled to launch in the US on September 22 and in Europe three days later.

Based on its strong performance during this quarter and the last, the company raised its annual revenue guidance by 17 per cent to 586 billion Korean won ($470m/£285.2m), and its operating profit forecast 80 per cent to 180 billion won ($144.4m/£87.6m).

It was also revealed today that Jeff Strain And David Reid, president of product development and president of publishing at NCsoft West, have left the company.
