[Update: Nintendo says the report is based purely on the speculation of the Nikkei newspaper]

Nintendo will reportedly release a new DSi sporting larger screens later this year in Japan.

The new model’s screens will be three-quarters of an inch larger than those featured on the current DSi, with the device said to be aimed at an older market, according to Nikkei (via Kotaku).

The price of the new, larger DSi will be 18,900 yen when it launches, the same as the existing model costs.

A Nintendo UK spokesperson told us that "the article is based purely on the speculation of the Nikkei newspaper and not from any information or briefing from Nintendo".

It's a bit silly to keep pumping out newer versions of existing hardware, sure, but having held off on buying a DSi thus far, this newer one is looking interesting.
