The number of new intellectual properties released for consoles is on the rise, according to EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich.

“From 2006 to 2009, the market share of new intellectual properties on the seventh generation home platforms grew from 16% to 22%, which may seem insignificant, but in absolute terms there were 61 new properties introduced in 2007, while 2009 had 126 - a 106% increase in new intellectual properties being introduced since 2007 on the next-generation home consoles,” he wrote on Industry Gamers.

However, Divnich also noted that the success of 2009’s new intellectual properties, such as Wet, above, was limited, with none of them achieving an aggregate review score of 90 or above and only seven reaching “hit” status.

Citing NPD sales data, publisher Activision yesterday labelled DJ Hero the highest grossing new IP across Europe and the US during 2009.

but WET isn't really 'new' IP.... just because it doesn't have a bunch of roman numerals at the end of a title, doesn't mean it's new. the type of gameplay in WET is not new and can be experienced in a lot of other games.

mirror's edge is geuninely new because, while it might not have been the first, it does platforming in first-person, which is relatively rare.
