The latest round of figures from The NPD has revealed that sales of Nintendo’s recently released New Super Mario Bros. title have already surpassed those of Super Mario Galaxy.
Nintendo launched Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 at an early point in Wii’s lifecycle, while the new, 2D, Super Mario Bros. title launched towards the end of last year, to a much larger Wii install base. In just a month and a half, sales of New Super Mario Bros. have already exceeded those of Super Mario Galaxy in North America, according to numbers released by The NPD Group, reports IGN.
Super Mario Galaxy has sold 4.1 million copies since it released over two years ago in the US. New Super Mario Bros. has already hit the 4.2 million mark (in around 45 days of being on sale).
New Super Mario Bros. made an impressive start in Japan, shifting 422,000 copies during its first 24 hours of availability. Final first week sales went on to top one million units sold.
