Former EA Canada employees have formed the Wii and DS-specific studio Jet Black Games.

According to a statement from the Vancouver-based company, Jet Black will create games that are based on original and licensed IP.

"Both the Nintendo DS and Wii's WiFi capabilities provide an advanced medium for Jet Black to bring already popular franchises to an even broader worldwide audience,” said co-founder and CEO Roger Freddi.

Freddi worked as a programmer on titles in the FIFA Soccer and Need for Speed franchises.

Jet Black is working with business management firm Flashman Studios to help bring well-known licenses to Jet Black’s games. Flashman has worked with a number of well-known studios including Sega, THQ, EA, Namco, Capcom and others.

The DS and Wii provide unique opportunities for smaller developers, as the consoles are cheaper to develop for compared to Microsoft and Sony's new machines and have large, rapidly increasing userbases.
