According to a report in The Times, sources have revealed that Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has been banned from speaking publicly about his hobbies in order to stop rivals gaining an insight into the company’s product strategy.

Miyamoto’s passion for puzzles, exercise and gardening are said to have inspired blockbuster games Brain Training, Wii Fit and Pikmin, while his love of music is believed to be behind upcoming title Wii Music.

‘In short, the gaming and investment communities are wondering which of his current pastimes will be translated into a virtual rendition that will attract millions of sales five years from now,’ the Times article says.

I agree that it may be extra caution on Nintendo's part but to say that he should quit Nintendo because of this its way extreme. More likely the article is just using making it worst than it is by putting the word ban on it, Nintendo simply told Miyamoto to not mention his hobbies on interviews too much.

I think this is a little extreme. The gap between hearing he enjoys exercise, and the idea of turning a bathroom scale into a game input for exercise software is quite a large gap. I doubt anyone could fill in the pieces between one and the other.

I don't think Nintendo should be worrying this much; to go from gardening to Pikmin takes imagination and the Miyamoto touch. As long as they are not planning Wii Garden as well.....

Shame on Nintendo, Miyamoto should resign for being treated like this.

I hope he goes on record to show his disapproval.
