"For those households who already have a DS that they share among family members, I want them to have one for each member."
Nintendo has announced that the new DS, called DSi, will be available in Japan from November 1, and priced at $180. It is likely to go on sale in Europe and North America next year.
The company has also announced an SD card for Wii, addressing some of the machine's memory issues. New Wii games announced include Punch Out and Dynasty Warriors.
The new DS will sport a larger screen, increased in size by 17%. As suggested in reports prior to Nintendo's announcements today, it will also offer a 3 megapixel camera and improved audio output.
Speaking at a Nintendo conference in Tokyo, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata also announced an SD card for DS and an online store for downloadable content.
He said, "We want everyone to have their own individual machine. For those households who already have a DS that they share among family members, I want them to have one for each member."
"The company has also announced an SD card for Wii"
Somebody help me out here. The Wii has an SD slot. SD cards have been around for yonks. I've had an SD card in my Wii for months (purchased online for next to nothing). So why the big announcement regarding a new SD card? Is it announcing an 'official' SD card with the usual Nintendo/Wii branding, which, as a result, will cost 50% more than other cards?
Being able to download games straight to the SD card is nice. But still not quite enough. I would like to see SDHC compatibility, and actually being able to play games dirextly from the SD card. Being able to save directly to SD and load from SD would be nice too.
I'd like to see being able to download the games and playing some of them BOTH on the Wii and DS, like the PSN with the PS3 and PSP. Hopefully they crack open their old catalog for that kind've play. And if they're worried about piracy, tie to them to all Wiis and DSes you have registered on your account.
I'm much more excited by Sin & Punishment 2 than anything mentioned in this post. I never got the appeal of Punch Out.
Me too. Although I'm also excited they're re-releasing GameCube games.
Hopefully they'll have additional features just for the Wii. :O
Miyamoto: "We're losing the core crowd boss"
Iwata: "Dig out Punch Out, they love dem waggles"
He said, "We want everyone to have their own individual machine. For those households who already have a DS that they share among family members, I want them to have one for each member. Oh and may I add, it prints money."
Still, Nintendo has me sold on this one. :P
I just hope it has upgradeable firmware.
Super Punch-Out, oh yes good times are here again!!!
