Nintendo has confirmed that it is to cut the UK trade price of the Wii from October 2.

Earlier this year Nintendo raised the trade price of the Wii due to the “unprecedented and sustained depreciation of the pound”. While the company didn’t provide specifics about the new drop in trade price, telling us that “the trade of Wii is a confidential figure between Nintendo and its retail customers”, it did confirm that the trade price will return to the original level it was at before the price rise earlier this year.

Nintendo also said that a new Wii hardware bundle will replace the existing offering from October 2 in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The Wii will now come packed with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and the Wii MotionPlus accessory.

Nintendo said in a statement: “We will be reducing the trade price of Wii to retailers from 2nd October 2009. In the UK and Republic of Ireland we are also introducing a new configuration of Wii hardware from 2nd October 2009 which will replace the current offering and will include the Wii console and Wii Sports with the new Wii Sports Resort game and Wii MotionPlus accessory. This will be available to retailers at the newly reduced trade price. The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by the retailers. Our aim has always been to expand the gaming population and there are still many more people out there who have not yet experienced the fun of video games. This compelling offer will hopefully make Wii more accessible to everyone.”

Earlier today Nintendo announced that it is to cut the recommended retail price of the Wii in the US and Japan by 20 per cent, to $199 and 20,000 yen respectively.

Wait, they put the price up of the Wii, then chuck a £40 game in and cut the price? I don't get it.

I've a feeling that the price will drop a bit now, because since the price went up we haven't sold as many.

Crazy isnt it, i did a conversion earlier. The Wii now costs $199 thats only £122, even with the lesser tax the U.S pays thats still a substantial difference in price
