Nintendo Dates Wii Fit Plus

CompanyĆs US arm also unveils new DSi, Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus colours.

Nintendo has given Wii Fit Plus a North American release date of October 4.

Billed as an “enhanced version” of Wii Fit, which sold over 18 million copies in its first year of availability, the title will replace its predecessor at retail upon launch.

Featuring new exercises and balance games that enable users to customise their workouts to target specific areas of their bodies, it will be bundled with the Wii Balance Board accessory at a suggested retail price of $99.99, or available as a standalone title at $19.99. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has predicted that the game could sell ten million copies this fiscal year.

Speaking at the 2009 GameStop Manager Conference, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime also revealed plans to release DSi, Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus units with new colour schemes in the US. The DSi will be available in white and pink from September 13, in addition to the existing blue and black versions, while a new black Wii Remote bundled with a black MotionPlus accessory will debut this holiday season. Interestingly, the company appears to have no immediate plans to release a black version of the Wii console in the US, having done so in Japan last month.

“All of these announcements bring more options and more choices to consumers as our industry heads into its busiest time of the year,” said Fils-Aime. “Each of these products allows consumers to enjoy a more personal gaming experience, no matter how they choose to play.”
