Nintendo has launched an eight-week marketing campaign heavily promoting the online capabilities of Wii.

The 'Get it Online' campaign has kicked off with a huge banner on the official Nintendo site which leads users though to a series of movies showing how to get the Wii connected to the internet.

There’s also a load of multiplayer game footage and features on the Wii Shop and web browser, and users are invited to submit their mobile numbers to receive text links to mobile versions of the videos.

Multiplayer titles Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and Mario Kart Wii feature heavily in the campaign, reports New Media Age.

Nintendo hopes the move will help give the company a larger slice of the online pie – Microsoft’s Xbox Live is predicted to generate £680m in subscription fees by 2013.
