Nintendo Reduces Wii Production

Japanese component manufacturers to suffer drop in revenues as platform holder scales back Wii orders.

Nintendo has slowed Wii production on the back of reduced demand, dealing a blow to the console’s Japanese component manufacturers.

Mitsumi and Hosiden could suffer 50 per cent revenue declines this fiscal year as the platform holder scales back Wii production, according to Nikkei (via Spong).

In late October Nintendo reduced its profit forecast for the business year ending March 2010, noting that Wii sales during 2009 were approximately “half the size of last year”. The company also lowered its annual Wii sales forecast from 26 million units to 20 million.
