Nintendo Refutes WiiWare Sales Target Claims

Report suggests WiiWare titles must overcome a significant contractual sales hurdle before developers get paid, while Nintendo says contracts are ìprivate and confidentialî.

A new report claims that WiiWare games must hit Nintendo dictated sales targets before developers see any financial return.

Citing multiple unnamed development sources, Gamasutra writes that this sales number is believed to be in the mid-four figure range for North America, and lower four figure range for individual European territories.

Developers don’t see any money until their particular sales target is exceeded, says the piece, which speculates that one of Nintendo's reasons for introducing such a policy could be to stop too much shovelware flooding the service.

“This is rumour and speculation,” a Nintendo UK spokesperson told us today. “The terms, conditions and contracts between Nintendo and developers is a private and confidential matter.”
