Sony Australia has confirmed that "it will not be introducing the limited edition 160GB PS3 announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe” at the 2008 Games Convention, reports IGN.
Sony’s reluctance to release the 160GB PS3 in Australia is likely due to the fact that it has no plans to launch its Play TV service in the country until the first half of 2009 and has yet confirm a launch window for its PSN video download service, suggesting it doesn’t feel Aussie gamers require the hard drive space at present.
The beefed up PS3 has already been confirmed for October and November releases in Europe and the US respectively.
However, Australian gamers will be able to pick up the newly announced PSP-3000, featuring LCD screen enhancements and an inbuilt microphone, from October 16, and the PS3 Wireless Keypad later this year.
As previously reported, the new 80GB PS3 will also be released in Australia on August 28 for AU $699.
