No European PS3 Video Download Store Until 2009

No word on Japanese launch date yet.

Sony has announced that the PS3 video download store will not launch in PAL territories until next year, according to GameSpot.

"This will not come to the PAL markets this year, but Sir Howard Stringer has made the commitment that non-games will come to all regions in due course and it will,” said SCEE boss David Reeves.

“The dates for video content will come later this year. For us, and I think you appreciate most of you Europeans, that local content is important, and that's what [we are] working on right now."

The PS3 video download store went live in North America earlier this week following its unveiling at Sony’s E3 press conference.

It was already known that the new service would hit the US before Europe and Japan, although the delay between launches wasn’t expected to be quite so great. There’s been no word as yet about when the video download store will arrive in Japan.
