Sony has announced that the PS3 video download store will not launch in PAL territories until next year, according to GameSpot.

"This will not come to the PAL markets this year, but Sir Howard Stringer has made the commitment that non-games will come to all regions in due course and it will,” said SCEE boss David Reeves.

“The dates for video content will come later this year. For us, and I think you appreciate most of you Europeans, that local content is important, and that's what [we are] working on right now."

The PS3 video download store went live in North America earlier this week following its unveiling at Sony’s E3 press conference.

It was already known that the new service would hit the US before Europe and Japan, although the delay between launches wasn’t expected to be quite so great. There’s been no word as yet about when the video download store will arrive in Japan.

Well, I think the article is a bit incorrect. It says:
The PS3 video download store went live in North America earlier this week following its unveiling at Sony’s E3 press conference.
However Canada did not get movie downloads. Even though we are on the same PSNetwork, Canadian IP addresses are blocked from the service. I am assuming that it is due to different copyright issues. Edge - can you get more information for the Canadians here?

Every now and then something happens which rams home the full extent of how Sony and Nintendo hold Europe in such low regard. I suppose we ought to be grateful to them for acknowledging our existence at all. Sony has been better to us than Nintendo over the years (congratulations on that incredible feat, SCEE) and this appears to be the latest side-effect of their inability to get anything right with PS3 as much as anything.

I've never understood why Europe remains so loyal to the Playstation brand when Sony keeps showing you guys the back of its hand.

It could also be December 2009 for all we know :p

I like how the plus point is that we will be getting games such as Motorstorm and LBP at the same time as the US!!! wow... we get games developed in our own country at the same time... how lucky are we?

This gap is quite ridiculous. How on earth can any justify a good 6 month gap between regional content like this. 1 month, 2 month hell 3 months i could bare with but this is just a joke. Next year? IT'S JULY!!!

Once again Europe is being completely forgotten and screwed over. Annoyingly, Europe is apparently is in favor of the ps3 over the xbox 360 last time i read with US being a bigger supporter of the 360. I cant help but feel that this move is trying to win some votes back, but s**tting on your fans wont win them anything.
